At This 124-year-old Medical College In Vellore, MBBS Fee Just Rs 3,000

Christian Medical College offers over 175 different postgraduate courses in the medical, nursing, and allied health disciplines.

Getting admission to MBBS courses in government medical colleges in the country is one of the biggest challenges. But not everyone tops the NEET examination and manages to get admission to the country’s most prestigious medical college, AIIMS, New Delhi. So, many students opt for private colleges. However, people have a perception that private medical colleges are not good. Firstly, the fees of the colleges are high, and secondly, the quality of education there has always been under question. However, there is a private college which is counted among the top medical colleges by NIRF.

The college is none other than Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore. This is a private medical college in Tamil Nadu and is known widely. The MBBS fees at this college are very low. According to reports, the annual tuition fee is Rs 3,000. Aside from that, Rs 8,800 must be paid at the time of admission to the first year. The other annual fee is Rs15,105. The one-time payment is Rs 13,425.

Christian Medical College was established in 1900 and was founded by Dr Ida Sophia Scudder. She was the daughter of second-generation medical missionaries from the Dutch Reformed Church of the United States of America (US) who worked in India. Dr Ida S Scudder established a single-bed dispensary in Vellore in 1900. In 1902, she constructed the 40-bed Mary Taber Schell Memorial Hospital for Women.

The college offers over 175 different postgraduate courses in the medical, nursing, and allied health disciplines, including PhD courses. A total of over 2,600 students are enrolled every year. As per reports, each year, 100 students are admitted for the undergraduate medical course MBBS. The MBBS course is recognised by the Medical Council of India.

The Christian Medical College is a registered, voluntary, non-profit organisation. The hospital is owned and administered by its Administrative Council, which is made up of Christian Church leaders from across India. John Riehl is the president of the Foundation. Christian Medical College is the third college in the NIRF ranking. There are only two colleges above it- AIIMS Delhi and PGIMER Chandigarh.
