Arijit Singh’s New Song Reflects On Kolkata Rape-murder Case And Calls for Unity

After the spine-chilling details of the RG Kar Medical College’s young doctor’s rape case came to light, many actors and actresses across the country have been raising concerns about women’s safety.

On Tuesday, August 27, a protest, mostly led by students was held over the horrific rape and murder case of a young doctor from Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College this month. The Nabanna march led to significant chaos and turmoil as the protestors demanded the resignation of West Bengal CM, Mamata Banerjee. Violence broke out and the police had to lathi charge and use tear gas. Addressing this turmoil, singer Arijit Singh has composed a song about the RG Kar incident.

After the spine-chilling details of the RG Kar Medical College’s young doctor’s rape case came to light, many actors and actresses across the country have been raising concerns about women’s safety. Now, Arijit Singh too has joined the protest by creating a song that has gone viral on the internet and has created a stir on social media.

As per sources, the Tum Hi Ho singer composed the song in his studio in Jiaganj, Murshidabad. Some fan pages have shared the video of the singer which he shared on a live stream. During the live session, Arijit Singh shared his concern, “Just taking to the streets is not enough. Everyone is out there. We are all here. But it shouldn’t lead to chaos. If things turn counterproductive, it won’t help. If someone wants to take advantage, they might.” He added, “You need to think and act wisely.”

He further mentioned, “This issue is happening in my state, my country, my home.” He urged for maintaining transparency and talked about how helpless it feels. The singer shared that since he can’t take to the streets to protest, he feels powerless. But he emphasised how the voices should not be silenced. He urged everyone to ensure that the reason for the protest should not get lost and that everyone would have to stay united.

The caption read, “Arijit Singh – I’m a little scared.” Many of the comments shared that the video is not from a live session, but is completely edited. Meanwhile, others were offended that the singer did not choose to step out to protest. A user wrote, “You could have come on the streets to protest, you would have seen the whole country siding with you.” Another wrote, “Ok never leave the house when you get scared.”
