Air India Mumbai To New York Flight Receives Bomb Threat, Lands Safely In Delhi

An Air India flight from Mumbai to New York was diverted to Delhi due to a bomb threat. The aircraft is stationed at IGI Airport.

An Air India flight from Mumbai to New York was diverted to New Delhi following a security concern arising out of a bomb threat. The aircraft landed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport safely.

All passengers and crew members on the flight were safe.

“The aircraft is currently stationed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, and all standard safety protocols are being diligently followed to ensure the safety of the passengers and crew on board,” news agency PTI quoted a senior police officer as saying.

According to the Delhi Police, there were 239 passengers on the aircraft when it was diverted.

The police also said the bomb threat was received via a post on social networking site X.

AIR INDIA REACTS

Commenting on the incident, a spokesperson of Air India said, “A specific security alert was received on Air India flight Al119 that was operating from Mumbai to JFK on October 14. On the request of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), the aviation security regulator, the flight was diverted to Delhi and has landed safely. All passengers have disembarked and are at the Delhi airport terminal.”

“Our colleagues on the ground are making sure to minimise the inconvenience caused to our guests by this unexpected disruption. Air India is committed to and accords top priority to the safety and security of its passengers and crew,” the spokesperson said.

VISTARA FLIGHT RECEIVED BOMB THREAT EARLIER

On October 9, a Vistara aircraft from London to New Delhi received a bomb threat, after which the plane landed safely at the airport in the national capital.

Sources said that a piece of paper with a message about a bomb onboard the plane was found in one of the lavatories and the relevant authorities were immediately informed, PTI reported.

There were nearly 290 passengers on the aircraft.

In line with the protocol, the relevant authorities were immediately informed and the aircraft was taken to the isolation bay for mandatory checks, after landing safely at the Delhi airport.
