PM Narendra Modi expressed his gratitude to those who have sent him their "blessings and good wishes", especially towards the BJP for choosing a "humble karyakarta" like him to lead Gujarat
Amid congratulations pouring in from all quarters for completing 23 years in public office, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said he will not rest till the “collective goal of a Viksit Bharat is realised”. He expressed his gratitude to those who have sent him their “blessings and good wishes”, especially towards the BJP for choosing a “humble karyakarta” like him to lead Gujarat.
“A heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has sent their blessings and good wishes as I complete 23 years as the head of a government. It was on October 7, 2001, that I took on the responsibility of serving as the Chief Minister of Gujarat. It was the greatness of my Party, @BJP4India, to task a humble Karyakarta like me with the responsibility of heading the state administration,” he said in a thread on social media platform X, formerly Twitter.

Modi first took charge as the head of a government in Gujarat on October 7, 2001. He said when he entered the state administration, it was riddled with challenges like the aftermath of major disasters – 2001 earthquake, super cyclone and drought – as well as “Congress misrule”.
He alleged that the Congress had propagated “loot, communalism and casteism” but it was the government “powered by Jana Shakti” that rebuilt Gujarat and “propelled it to new heights of progress”.
“When I assumed office as CM, Gujarat was facing numerous challenges – the 2001 Kutch Earthquake, before that a Super Cyclone, a massive drought, and the legacy of many decades of Congress misrule like loot, communalism and casteism. Powered by Jana Shakti, we rebuilt Gujarat and propelled it to new heights of progress, even in a sector like agriculture, for which the state was not traditionally known,” he wrote in the post.
He claimed that it was during his 13-year tenure that Gujarat emerged as “shining example of sabka saath sabka vikas” and, it was because of this, India blessed his party with a “record mandate” in 2014.
“During my 13 years as Chief Minister, Gujarat emerged as a shining example of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,’ ensuring prosperity for all sections of society. In 2014, the people of India blessed my Party with a record mandate, thus enabling me to serve as Prime Minister. This was a historic moment, as it marked the first time in 30 years that a party secured a full majority,” he added.
‘There is still more to be done’
Modi said while the government at the Centre led by him has been able to address several challenges, “there is still more to be done” and he will “keep working tirelessly”. Listing out India’s achievements, he claimed that the country has now been “freed from the clutches of poverty”.
He said India was now the fifth largest economy, and making strides in the MSME and startup sectors while new avenues have opened up for farmers, women, youth and the marginalised – the four major sections of society the BJP aims to target. He added that the country is also working to overcome global challenges like climate change and better healthcare.
“India’s developmental strides have ensured that our country is being viewed with utmost optimism globally. The world is keen to engage with us, invest in our people and be a part of our success. At the same time, India is working extensively to overcome global challenges be it climate change, improving healthcare, realising SDGs and more,” he said.
He added: “Much has been achieved over the years but there is still more to be done. The learnings over these 23 years enabled us to come up with pioneering initiatives which have made an impact both nationally and globally. I assure my fellow Indians that I will keep working tirelessly, with even more vigour in service of the people. I will not rest till our collective goal of a Viksit Bharat is realised.”
