Looking Back at Words & Slogans by PM Modi That Have Aged Well in His 23-Year ‘Jan Seva’

Each vision and initiative of the prime minister has turned into tangible outcomes, creating a legacy that will shape the nation for generations to come

When Prime Minister Narendra Modi first spoke the words ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Aur Sabka Prayas’, they resonated as more than just a vision — they embodied a promise to uplift every Indian through inclusive growth.

Over time, this promise has come to life in remarkable ways. With free health insurance extended to over 36 crore people and over 80 crore citizens receiving free ration under the PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, these efforts have transformed the lives of millions. Initiatives like PM Jan Dhan Yojana have revolutionised financial inclusion, with 53.3 crore bank accounts now empowering people from marginalised sections. The PM Awas Yojana has built over four crore homes, providing dignity and shelter to countless families. The reach of safe drinking water, under the Jal Jeevan Mission, has soared from just 16.74 per cent to an impressive 78.56 per cent, showcasing the government’s commitment to basic amenities.

Farmers, too, have been supported, with 11 crore farmers receiving direct financial aid through PM-Kisan. The Ujjwala Yojana expanded LPG coverage to over 105 per cent, reducing household pollution. Most significantly, 99 per cent of India’s adult population is now enrolled in Aadhaar, bringing every citizen into the fold of a transparent and accountable system.

Similarly, PM Modi’s call for Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE) has championed a pro-planet ethos, inspiring India and the world towards sustainable living. Despite its vast population, India accounts for only five per cent of global carbon emissions — a testament to its low per capita footprint. The ban on single-use plastics stands as a monumental step, positioning India as one of the lowest users globally. Under the UJALA scheme, over 37 crore LEDs have been distributed, reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions. The FAME India initiative, with Rs 1,000 crore allocated for EV infrastructure, has accelerated the transition to electric vehicles. Internationally, the Namami Gange project gained recognition as one of United Nation’s Top 10 World Restoration Flagships, emphasising India’s efforts to revive and restore its natural ecosystems.

The Swachh Bharat message, a cornerstone of PM Modi’s governance, evolved into a true people’s movement. Today, 100 per cent of Indian villages are open-defecation free, a staggering achievement that has greatly improved public health and hygiene. With the construction of over 11.68 crore household toilets, Swachh Bharat became more than just a cleanliness drive — it is a mass movement that has united the nation under a common cause, transforming everyday practices and mindsets.

Through the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, India’s march towards self-reliance has seen unparalleled progress. The nation achieved record-breaking merchandise exports, crossing $437 billion in FY24. Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows also hit an all-time high of $84.83 billion in 2021-22. These milestones underscore India’s growing stature as a global economic powerhouse, setting the stage for future growth and development.

The principle of Jan Bhagidari — the idea that governance succeeds with public participation — has become a hallmark of PM Modi’s leadership. This spirit was evident during India’s Covid-19 vaccination drive, where over 220 crore doses were administered across the country. The success of the G20 summit also demonstrated this, with 1.6 crore Indians actively contributing to its organisation. The nation’s united front in initiatives like Swachh Bharat and Har Ghar Tiranga was further seen in over one crore citizens voluntarily giving up their LPG subsidies, while 15 crore+ Tiranga selfies captured the patriotic fervour of the people.

PM Modi’s Vocal for Local slogan has breathed new life into India’s indigenous industries. The sales of Khadi and Village Industries products have surged by an impressive 332 per cent over the past nine years, proving the power of local craftsmanship. India’s toy industry, which saw a 239 per cent increase in exports, is another example of how Vocal for Local has boosted global competitiveness for domestic products.

Modi’s idea of ‘Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi’ has revived India’s cultural and historical identity alongside its economic progress. After centuries of anticipation, the Ram Mandir is finally a reality. Moreover, over 640 artefacts have been returned to India, reclaiming the nation’s lost heritage. The Kashi Vishwanath Dham, with its historic grandeur restored, is now a place where the past meets the present, drawing millions of devotees and tourists.

The philosophy of ‘Minimum Government, Maximum Governance’ has translated into a streamlined, efficient administration. PM Modi’s government scrapped over 1,200 outdated colonial-era laws and reduced 39,000 compliances, cutting bureaucratic red tape. Direct Benefit Transfers (DBT) amounting to Rs 39.44 lakh crore have been directly credited to citizens’ bank accounts, ensuring that the benefits of government schemes reach the right people without leakage or corruption.

In the spirit of ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyan, Jai Anusandhan’, India has taken great strides in research and development. The establishment of the National Research Foundation, with an investment of Rs 50,000 crore, is a first since Independence, fuelling innovation and scientific exploration across the country.

‘Reform, Perform & Transform’ has been a guiding principle of PM Modi’s government, with major reforms reshaping the nation. The Goods and Services Tax (GST) brought ‘One Nation, One Tax’ into reality, simplifying the tax structure. Initiatives like Bharatmala and Sagarmala have revolutionised India’s road and coastal infrastructure, while PM Gati Shakti is creating a world-class logistical network. The Digital India mission has empowered the nation with e-governance, and the Startup India initiative has nurtured a vibrant startup ecosystem.

‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ has unified the diverse cultural fabric of India. Events like the Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam and the Kashi Tamil Sangamam have brought different regions closer, celebrating India’s linguistic, cultural, and historical ties. The PRASAD and Hriday schemes have revitalised religious tourism and heritage sites, enriching India’s cultural landscape.

Before his role as prime minister, Modi’s slogans resonated deeply in Gujarat as well, proving that his approach to governance and development is not a recent phenomenon. The tourism campaign ‘Kuch Din to Gujaro Gujarat Mein’ remains one of the most successful state tourism initiatives ever launched. Highlighting Gujarat’s heritage, natural beauty, and vibrant festivals, the campaign boosted tourism significantly, with arrivals increasing from 1.27 lakh in 2006-07 to 2 lakh by 2010-11, making Gujarat a sought-after destination.

When we look back at his days as the chief minister of Gujarat, PM Modi’s P2 G2: Pro-People, Good Governance mantra had revolutionised governance in Gujarat and beyond. Through the Vibrant Gujarat summit, the state became an investment hub. Initiatives like the Sujalam Sufalam Jal Abhiyan turned Gujarat from a water-scarce to water-surplus state, while the Jyotigram Yojana provided 24/7 electricity to rural areas. The Khel Mahakumbh unearthed grassroots sports talent, offering them a platform to shine.

In the end, PM Modi’s words have not only aged well — they have redefined India’s journey. Each vision and initiative has turned into tangible outcomes, creating a legacy that will shape the nation for generations to come.
