A shocking case recently came up before doctors in UP’s Bareilly when hair weighing approximately 2kg was found in the stomach of a 21-year-old woman who had been pulling out and consuming her own hair since the age of five.
The young woman, from Kargenga in Bareilly, was brought to the hospital by her family following severe abdominal pain. A subsequent CT scan revealed large accumulation of hair in her stomach. It was later found that the woman had been pulling out her hair and eating it since childhood. The hair was removed from the woman’s stomach following a surgery.
She Was Eating Her Hair Since the Age of 5
On September 20, 2024, the woman’s family took her to the Bareilly district hospital. When pressed by doctors, she revealed she had been eating her hair since she was five-years-old.
The surgical team explained that the hair had wrapped around her stomach, with some strands even reaching the small intestine. Following a thorough examination, the doctors conducted a surgery to remove the hair from the young woman’s stomach.
