City-Bred Husband Likes Tea. Wife from the Village Likes Milk. Agra Police Caught in the Middle

A fight broke out between the newly-weds when the husband allegedly tried to force his wife to adopt his tea habit, citing high expenses. What started as a disagreement blew up into a big fight, following which the wife filed a complaint against her husband and in-laws

The husband likes tea, wife likes milk. Sounds like something a couple can work around. But in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra, a newly wed couple’s fight over beverage preferences led them to the police station, with the baffled cops referring them to the family counselling centre.

The couple were married in April this year. The husband, who works for a private company in the city, drinks tea several times a day, while his wife, who comes from a rural background, prefers hot milk. According to the wife, she prepares tea for her husband but prefers milk for herself.

A fight broke out between them when the husband allegedly tried to force her to adopt his tea habit, citing high expenses. What started as a disagreement blew up into a big fight. The wife left her marital home and returned to her parents’ house, where she filed a complaint against her husband and in-laws.

The police subsequently referred the case to the family counselling centre, where the husband and wife are said to have reconciled.

Counsellor Dr Satish Khirwar said that during the session, the husband made several accusations, claiming that his wife was disrespectful and mistreated his parents. Meanwhile, the wife explained that she came from a family that rears cows and buffaloes, and that no one drank tea in her family. After hearing both sides, the counsellor advised the husband not to force his wife to drink tea in the future.

The couple agreed to live together peacefully and with mutual consent.
