The security of all Israel and Iranian missions in India have been put on high alert after Iran’s missile attack on Israel on Tuesday. According to top intelligence sources, proper scrutiny of the security of diplomats was being carried out.
Sources said Indian authorities were watching immigrations closely. “We don’t want India to become a battleground in the fight between the two countries and we want to remain neutral,” sources said.
Top sources cited the 2023 attack on Israel embassy, the case that remained unsolved, adding that they don’t want any problems now.
The security of the Iranian mission has also been heightened to avoid any possible attack.
Indian Embassy in Israel Urges Caution
Meanwhile, the Indian embassy in Tel Aviv warned its nationals to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel within the country.
The Indian mission said that it is closely monitoring the situation amid escalating tensions in the Middle East. This warning comes after similar advisories were issued last month urging caution for Indian nationals living in Lebanon.
“In view of the prevailing situation in the region, all Indian nationals in Israel are advised to stay vigilant and adhere to the safety protocols as advised by the local authorities (https://www.oref.org.il/eng),” the Indian mission in Tel Aviv said. “Please exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel within the country and stay close to safety shelters. The Embassy is closely monitoring the situation and remains in regular touch with the Israeli authorities to ensure the safety of all our nationals,” it added.
Israel Vows to Fight Back, US Supports Netanyahu
Iran on Tuesday launched hundreds of missiles at Israel, just hours after a US official warned that Tehran was preparing to “imminently launch a ballistic missile attack.”
Iran said the attack was in response to the killing of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah and Iranian Brigadier General Abbas Nilforushan last week in an Israeli airstrikes, as well as the death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in a bombing in Tehran in July.
Israel said it would make Iran “pay” for the attack. “Iran made a big mistake tonight and it will pay for it,” Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu said at a late-night meeting. US President Joe Biden said that it was “fully supportive” of Israel after the missile attack, adding that he would discuss a response with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
