Delhi PWD To Conduct Structural Audit Of IIT, Rao Tula Ram And Modi Mill Flyovers

The Public Works Department (PWD) of Delhi has initiated a structural audit of three key flyovers— IIT, Rao Tula Ram and Modi Mill—located on the Outer Ring Road. These flyovers, constructed several years ago, have deteriorated with time, prompting the need for assessment and repair. In a recent decision, the Delhi PWD also announced plans for repair and beautification work beneath the Modi Mill flyover.

According to the latest reports, as part of the beautification initiative, the area under the flyover will see the installation of fountains and the planting of flower beds.

The Delhi PWD has begun conducting various tests to assess the structural integrity of these flyovers, with repair work set to follow once the results are available. In addition, 3D scanning technology will be used to examine the placement of steel rods and determine any necessary reinforcement.

This beautification drive follows the road enhancement efforts initiated during the G20 summit, which included the installation of fountains and the promotion of greenery. The Delhi PWD’s initiative is also aimed at reducing dust and improving the overall environment along these busy roads.

According to a recent report, traffic will be diverted only locally during repair and rehabilitation work. While planning, consultants will have to take into account traffic conditions, space limitations and other problems in the surrounding areas.

The 500-meter-long Modi Mill flyover is very important and that is why the PWD is paying special attention to it. Modi Mill is a six-lane road that connects Kalkaji Mandir to Sukhdev Vihar. One of its loops leads to Mathura Road and after the elevated road ends, this road is used to reach areas like Jamia Millia and Sukhdev Vihar. The flyover passes near the Kalkaji temple and goes to the Kalkaji flyover. About two years ago, 18 extensions were changed on both carriageways here.

There is an emphasis on making the places under the PWD Modi flyover clean and green. Earlier, the department had created green areas under the Chirag Delhi flyover and installed grills all around for their protection. Now there is a plan to repair the broken walls under the Modi Mill flyover and make a proper drainage system for the fountain.
