Class 8 Dropout Used Fake Police Uniform to Take Advantage of Lady Constables, Minted Over Rs 2 Crore

The accused use to secure loans for his victims by using their Aadhaar and PAN cards and reaching out to a contact in Lucknow

Police have arrested a man who has only completed his eighth grade for duping around a dozen women constables into marriage by posing as a fake cop. The accused also extorted over Rs 2 crores from his victims and had even married one of the women constables.

Bareilly Superintendent of Police (City) Rahul Bhati said that they arrested the suspect at the Satellite Bus Stand. The accused, who has only completed his 8th grade, used to claim that he was posted at the Lucknow ADG office, Bhati said.

Explaining the modus operandi of the accused, Bhati stated that the suspect used to extract information about the postings of women police personnel from the official police website to identify his potential targets. He would then deceive them by introducing himself as a police officer, sending photos of himself in a police uniform, and luring them into marriage.

According to his statement, the accused, identified as Rajan Verma, a resident of Lakhimpur Kheri, has confessed to around eight to ten incidents so far. Five cases have been registered against him.

In one case registered at a Bareilly police station, Verma was accused of duping a woman police officer of Rs 30 lakh. Moreover, Verma would arrange loans for his targets by taking their Aadhaar and PAN cards and contacting a known associate in Lucknow.

According to the police investigation, a constable in the Special Operations Group from Lakhimpur had earlier cheated Verma by taken money in exchange for getting him a job in the police force.

When he failed to get into the force, Verma began living among police personnel and learning their lifestyle, leading to increased interactions with the police. Verma learned how to wear the police uniform, salute, and handle weapons. He then lied to a woman police officer about being enrolled in the police force and married her. After his wife discovered the truth, they parted ways. Following this, he began deceiving other women police officers in the same manner.

When one of his victims, a woman constable from Bareilly, lodged an FIR against him at a police station, the police launched an investigation and search operation.

The woman constable stated that after Verma took her documents to apply for a loan for a plot of land, he fraudulently bought a car on loan. When the amount was deducted from the victim’s account, the fake constable’s secret was exposed.
