The question of whether chicken came first or the egg, has intrigued the public as well as the internet for a long time. However, no one thought that such a simple question would lead to the murder of an innocent. According to a report from Indonesia, a man ended up killing his friend just because he was unable to answer the question.
The incident took place in the Muna Regency, which is located in the Southeast Sulawesi province, Indonesia. The police arrested a man for stabbing his friend over an argument on the aforementioned riddle, “Which came first, the chicken or the egg?” The incident occurred on July 24, the reports state.
The suspect, only identified by the initials DR, and his friend Kadir Markus met up for a drink. DR then asked Markus the “chicken and egg” question. A harmless discussion turned into a full-fledged argument in no time. So, to avoid worsening the situation, Markus decided to leave the conversation and head back home.
But DR was armed with a traditional weapon known as badik, a dagger used by the coastal tribes in southern Sulawesi like the Bugis and the Makassarese. He chased his friend Markus on a bike and then on foot, repeatedly attacking him with the weapon.
The bystanders rushed Markus to a hospital but he succumbed to his injuries and lost his life. Iptu Abdul Hasan, the Tongkuno police chief confirmed the happening, affirming that both men were under alcohol influence at the time of the murder.
As per the reports, DR has been arrested by the police and his weapon has also been seized. They also seized the trousers of the suspect, which he was wearing during the incident. He has been arrested on the charges of murder and could face up to 18 years in prison.
On July 26, Markus was laid to rest, while the authorities are continuing their investigation into the murder. He was reportedly stabbed over 15 times with the weapon.
