American artistic gymnast Simone Biles seems to have revealed a well-kept secret of the sport in one of her latest TikTok videos. The 27-year-old recently secured her fifth Olympic gold medal, triumphing in the women’s gymnastics in Paris. The United States contingent, featuring Biles, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey and Sunisa Lee, registered 171.296 points to finish atop the standings. A few days ago, Biles had shared a training video on TikTok where she was seen practicing with some of her teammates, supposedly at the Paris Olympics village.
Once the clip surfaced on the internet, viewers noticed a couple of guys, wearing green costumes from head to toe, helping Simone Biles maintain her position, as per a report by Lad Bible. It made them think that gymnasts are being assisted by the spotters, who later get edited out from the official broadcast.
Responding to such claims, another gymnast Ian Gunther shared a parody video on Instagram. In the video, the American artistic gymnast sarcastically explained how those spotters help the athletes perform the stunts. “Secret Olympic gymnastics spotter training gym exposed,” read the caption of the post.

Ian Gunther collaborated with his fellow gymnast Sofie Dossi for the video and both had dressed in that all-green outfit. He took a dig at the critics at the start of the clip, saying, “Many of you now know that gymnastics is actually fake.” The video then cuts to a “secret gym” where those green people train to make the sport look “as real as possible”. In the next frame, Gunther and Dossi can be seen undergoing rigorous training to hone their skills
“The audience at the Olympics demands to see the most gymnastics moves. So, these spotters are pushing themselves to learn these super interactive moves,” Ian Gunther was heard saying in the video.
Ian Gunther created the hilarious video to highlight the difficulty and challenges faced by the gymnasts. His post has already garnered nearly 10 lakh views. Reacting to the post, One of the viewers quipped, “This explains why I never became a star in gymnastics. My spotter was clearly incompetent.” Another person sarcastically wrote, “Me searching up how to be a spotter.”
“At this point, it is harder to be a spotter than a gymnast,” commented another individual.
According to Ian Gunther, the spotters also memorize the routine of every gymnast so that they do not make any mistakes during the performance.
