Retired Judge Orders Food in Indore, Ends Up Losing Rs 1 Lakh

This incident underscores the increasing prevalence of cybercrime, as scammers continuously develop new methods to target unsuspecting victims.

In a shocking incident highlighting the dangers of online fraud, a retired judge from Indore became a victim of a cyber scam after a simple food order turned into a costly mistake. This incident underscores the increasing prevalence of cybercrime, as scammers continuously develop new methods to target unsuspecting victims.

The victim had ordered food through delivery app Swiggy but became concerned about the portion size. In an attempt to cancel his order, he searched for assistance on Google and inadvertently called a number linked to cybercriminals. Believing he was taking the correct steps to cancel the order, he followed their instructions and clicked on a link they provided.

This action quickly spiraled into a disaster. Upon clicking the link, the man’s phone became unresponsive, and he lost control over it as the scammers took over remotely. They gained access to sensitive information, including one-time passwords (OTPs) sent to his phone. Within moments, he discovered that Rs 1 lakh had been withdrawn from his bank account.

The victim promptly reported the incident to the local police station. Authorities have since launched an investigation into the case, aiming to track down the perpetrators behind this fraudulent scheme. As cases of online fraud continue to rise in Indore, local cyber police have been working to raise awareness about these scams.
