JEE Main 2025: NTA Announces Change In Paper Pattern, Check Details Here

The JEE Main exam will return to the pre-Covid-19 pattern in which optional questions will not be given in Section B of the exam paper.

The National Testing Agency has scraped the optional questions of section B of the JEE Main Exam paper ahead of the registration for the JEE Main 2025. In JEE Main 2021, the NTA introduced optional questions in section B of the exam paper in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, since the World Health Organization has declared an end to the coronavirus pandemic, the NTA has now removed the optional questions from the paper pattern.

With this announcement, the JEE Main 2025 examination will return to the pre-COVID pattern. In Section B, there will be only 5 questions, all of which will be compulsory, with no options to choose from.

In the official notification the NTA said, “During the onset of the COVID 19 pandemic, the National Testing Agency (NTA) had implemented an option in Section B of each subject in the JEE (Main) Examination allowing candidates to attempt any 5 (five) questions out of a total of 10 questions since JEE (Main) 2021. This modification was introduced as a temporary measure to accommodate the challenges posed during the pandemic and has been in practice till the year 2024 for JEE (Main) examination.”

“Since the declaration of the UN World Health Organization (WHO) on COVID-19 as an end of Public health emergency on 05 May 2023, it has been decided to discontinue the optional selection of questions. The examination structure would return to its original format, where Section B will contain only 5 (five) questions per subject, and candidates will be required to attempt all 5 (five) questions, without any options for selection in JEE (Main) 2025 for Paper 1 (B.E./B. Tech), Paper 2 A (B Arch) and Paper 2 B (B Planning),” the official notification added.

JEE Main 2025

JEE Main 2025 exam will be held in two sessions. The first session exams will be conducted in January 2025 while the second session will be conducted in April 2025. The NTA will soon release the full schedule for the JEE Main 2025 exam, paper pattern and commence the application process for the same on the official website – jeemain.nta.ac.in.

Based on previous trends, the application process is anticipated to start in November-December 2024. Students who have completed their class 12 qualifying exams in the science stream with mathematics, as well as who are scheduled to appear for class 12 exams in March-April 2025, will be eligible to apply for the JEE Main 2025 exams.
