Schools To Remain Shut In Bengaluru, Chennai, AP On October 16 Due To Heavy Rainfall

Due to heavy rain in Bengaluru city, the govt has decided to give holidays to both private and government schools but no announcement has been made regarding the closure of colleges yet

It has been raining heavily in Bengaluru since early morning on Tuesday. In the wake of heavy rains, Bengaluru DC Jagdish has announced a holiday for schools in Bengaluru tomorrow, October 16. Isolated heavy rains and thundershowers are likely over south interior Bangalore Rural, Bangalore City, Chikkaballapur, Chikkamagaluru, Mysore, and Kolar districts as well as coastal Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. Light to moderate rain is likely to occur in most places of Uttara Kannada district.

Due to heavy rain in Bengaluru city, the govt has decided to give holidays to both private and government schools but no announcement has been made regarding the closure of colleges yet.

Besides, government primary schools have Dussehra vacation till October 20 but private schools have commenced classes from Monday. However, due to heavy rains, it has been difficult for children to come to school. Therefore, Bangalore City DC Jagadish has informed that the schools of the capital city have been informed to give holiday.

Several districts of Andhra Pradesh too have been receiving heavy rains since Monday. The AP government has announced a holiday for schools, colleges, and all educational institutions across Tirupati, Chittoor, Nellore, and Prakasam districts till October 17, 2024.

Heavy to very heavy rains are likely to occur in many districts of AP from October 14 to 17, the Indian Meteorological Department said. Some parts of West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna, NTR district, Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, Prakasam, Nellore, Kurnool, Nandyala, Annamayya, Chittoor and Tirupati districts are expected to receive very heavy rainfall. Light to moderate rains are likely in some parts of the rest of the districts.

The Tamil Nadu government too has declared a holiday across schools and educational institutions in the state for October 16. Schools will remain shut tomorrow across Chennai, Thiruvallur, Chengalpet, and Kancheepuram after the Indian Meteorological Department issued a red alert on Monday.
