Medicines Containing ‘Khadiya Mitti’ Being Sold at Kanpur Market, Pharmacies Busted

A Chymoral Forte sample from a pharmacy at Kanpur was found fake, containing chalk soil, while Zerodol SP and Montair-LC samples were deemed sub-standard

Imagine if the daily medicines you rely on to cure you are fake. In a shocking incident, an investigation of some wholesale traders by the drug department has brought to light that ‘Khadiya Mitti’ was mixed in some of their medicines.

This disclosure was made during the investigation of Medi Life and Nigam Drug Store located at Birhana Road in Kanpur. Some popular medicines like Chymoral Forte and Aciloc RD were found to be fake. Instead of essential salts, these tablets were found to contain ‘Khadiya Mitti’ or chalk soil, considered dangerous for patients’ health.

A team of drug inspectors raided the pharmacy market on Birhana Road and took samples from Medi Life Agency owner Rijul Gupta and Nigam Drugs owner Gyanveer Nigam. While three samples were tested from Medi Life, 18 were tested from Nigam Drugs. Out of these, some samples were found to be fake.

A sample of Chymoral Forte taken from Medi Life was found to be fake and contained chalk soil. Moreover, samples of Zerodol SP and Montair-LC were found to be sub-standard since the quantity of medicine in the sample was only seven percent instead of 100.

The drug department has issued notices to these pharmacies selling fake medicines and their responses are being sought. A case will be registered against them soon, the department said adding that it is collecting samples from other pharmacies in the vicinity and testing them to find out other places where fake medicines are being sold.

The police have formed a special investigation team under the leadership of the ACP which is investigating this entire syndicate. They are trying to find out the culprits behind this fake medicine racket and how large-scale their operation is.
