On His Terrace, Delhi Constable’s Free Coaching For Students Preparing To Take Govt Exams

In 2016, Ajay Grewal founded the Vidyaan Mahadaan Coaching Centre. Each batch consists of around 100 students, with some opting for online lessons.

Ajay Grewal, a head constable with the Delhi Police from Adarsh Nagar in Bahadurgarh, balances his day between his government duties and his passion for educating underprivileged children. In the evenings, he transforms the terrace of his home into a classroom, offering free tutoring. Along with offline coaching, he also provides online lessons to students.

Ajay Grewal manages just five hours of sleep each night. The rest of his time is divided between his job and teaching children. For the past eight years, he has been offering free tuition to underprivileged students preparing for government job exams. His rooftop coaching has helped over 3,000 students secure government jobs.

In 2016, Ajay Grewal founded the Vidyaan Mahadaan Coaching Centre. Each batch consists of around 100 students, with some opting for online lessons. The students, seated on mattresses scattered across the rooftop, focus intently on the whiteboard mounted on the wall. Ajay, using a black marker, covers a wide range of subjects, from general knowledge to mathematics. His rooftop classes continue until 3 a.m., with Ajay teaching for nearly seven hours daily, covering subjects such as general knowledge, reasoning, mathematics, English, and Hindi.

To further extend his reach, Ajay Grewal launched the Vidyaan Mahadaan YouTube channel, providing lessons to children from low-income backgrounds. Many of his former students, now employed, return to assist with teaching. Ajay’s first batch of the day begins at 6 p.m., and the last session concludes at 3 a.m. For the safety of his female students, he ensures that their classes finish by 10:30 p.m.

Ajay’s journey into education is rooted in his own experiences. He once aspired to join the civil services and twice reached the interview stage of the UPSC exams, but ultimately did not pass. Undeterred, he succeeded in the Delhi Police Constable exam and began his career in government service. His father had also retired from the Delhi Police. While living in Haryana, Ajay was an avid wrestler and trained at an arena he built near his home. During this time, he competed in various regional and national wrestling tournaments. After joining the Delhi Police in 2009, Ajay resumed wrestling, which helped him pass the physical exam for the police force. Currently, Ajay is stationed at the Delhi Police Training College in Jharoda Kalan, Delhi.

Ajay Grewal offers his free coaching exclusively to children from low-income families, ensuring they have the opportunity to succeed.
