SC Advocate Demands Release Of UGC Results, Writes To UGC And NTA Chairperson

The lawyer has expressed his willingness to seek judicial intervention to ensure students get justice.

Supreme Court advocate Ujjawal Gaur has urged the relevant authorities to make the UGC NET re-examination results available as soon as possible. He has expressed his willingness to seek judicial intervention to ensure students get justice in a letter addressed to the heads of the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the University Grants Commission (UGC), highlighting the distress students are experiencing as a result of the protracted delay in the announcement of the results of the contentious UGC-NET 2024 re-examination. At ugcnet.nta.ac.in, the NTA UGC NET result 2024 for the June session is anticipated to be released.

Ujjawal Gaur, a member of the Delhi High Court Bar Association and the Supreme Court Bar Association, posted on his X platform (formerly Twitter) stating: “I have formally addressed a letter to the UGC Chairman and NTA exams Chairperson, urging the immediate release of the UGC NET results. The continued delay is a serious infringement on student’s rights and is causing unnecessary hardship. If needed, we are prepared to seek judicial intervention. Rest assured, I stand firmly with you in this pursuit of justice. Stay strong, we’ll get through this together.”

Narrating the experience of irate students, the advocate clarified how the students’ path has already been characterised by significant hurdles, ranging from a paper leak and re-examination to the prolonged wait for the UGC NET 2024 results. Candidates’ lives have been significantly impacted by these delays, on a personal and professional level. A growing number of professional and academic positions are closing, depriving students of the opportunity to apply and grow in their professions. Given that multiple academic and professional vacancies are approaching their deadline, he emphasised that this delay weakens the candidates’ efforts and negatively impacts their mental health as well as their academic and professional endeavours.

Most significantly, he continued in the letter, stating that the delay breaches their fundamental rights guaranteed by Articles 14 and 19(1)(g) of the Indian Constitution, which include the freedom to practise any profession and equality before the law. “Every passing day without the declaration of results erodes their hope and leaves them further behind in securing crucial opportunities,” he stated.

Gaur also underlined the financial toll that thousands of students have had to pay as a result of the UGC-NET struggle. He did, however, express confidence in the Indian legal system to maintain justice, warning that if the UGC and NTA do not move quickly, the students’ case could need to be taken to court. “The courts have consistently demonstrated their sensitivity to such issues, ensuring that fairness and transparency prevail,” he stated.

Students Concerns On UGC Net Results

For several days, those who took the UGC NET exam have also been waiting for the result’s publication. Through social media, they are filing their protest with NTA and UGC. They claim that the paper was originally cancelled purposefully. Then, upon the reexamination, the outcome is kept a secret. Candidates also claim that the answer key contained numerous mistakes. In certain papers, 30 out of 150 questions had incorrect answers. In such a case, the final answer key is also anticipated in addition to the outcome.

The NTA is expected to release the results between October 12 and October 15, based on the most recent information. Earlier in the year, the UGC faced criticism for irregularities, corruption, poor administration, and a history of exam cheating.
