Amid Tirupati Laddoo Row, Ujjain’s Mahakal Temple Prasad Gets Thumbs Up After Testing

The tests were carried out in both private and government laboratories, examining the ingredients used, such as ghee, gram flour, sugar, cardamom, and dry fruits, all of which were found to be entirely pure

Last month, a controversy arose nationwide after animal fat was allegedly found in the ghee used to prepare laddoos at the Tirupati Balaji Temple in Andhra Pradesh. In response, devotees demanded an inspection of the famous laddoos served as prasad at Ujjain’s renowned Mahakal Temple.

Given the sensitivity of the matter, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) conducted a test and released the report.

According to the report, the laddoos at Mahakal Temple are entirely unadulterated.

The tests were carried out in both private and government laboratories, examining the ingredients used, such as ghee, gram flour, sugar, cardamom, and dry fruits, all of which were found to be entirely pure.

The prasad of Mahakal Temple holds a special status, not only in Ujjain but also across the nation, and has received a five-star hygiene rating in the test reports.

Every day, up to 50 quintals of laddoos are prepared at the Mahakal Temple. According to temple authorities, over 50 workers operate continuously for 10 hours a day to maintain cleanliness and ensure the quality of the laddoos.

Food Safety Officer Basant Dutt Sharma stated that they routinely check the purity of the laddoos.

Following the Tirupati controversy, a devotee had brought a packet of Mahakal Temple laddoos for testing. She added that the laddoos were tested at Indore’s private lab, PIOUS LAB PVT LTD, as well as Bhopal’s government lab. The test results confirmed that the laddus were completely pure.

  2. Extraneous Matter – Absent (FSSAI)
  3. Visible Fungus – Absent (FSSAI)
