10 Dead, 5 Injured After House Collapses In UP’s Meerut, Rescue Ops Underway

The officials said that the National Disaster Response Force, fire brigade and police teams are working to rescue those trapped under the debris.

As many as 10 people were killed, and five were injured after a three-storey building collapsed in the Zakir Colony of Meerut district in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, said officials, adding that the rescue operations are underway.

The incident occurred around 5:15 pm and emergency services were immediately alerted, it said. The injured were rushed to Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Medical College for medical treatment, it added.

Meerut District Magistrate Deepak Meena confirmed the collapse of the three-storey house in Zakir Colony. The official said the National Disaster Response Force, fire brigade and police teams are working to rescue those trapped under the debris.

Confirming the number of injuries and casualties in the Meerut building collapse, Meena said, “The incident occurred around 4:30 pm in the Zakir colony area of Meerut. As told by the family and relatives, 15 people were trapped in the debris of the house. All 15 have been rescued, 10 out of which have died and 5 are undergoing treatment.” He added that the has been sealed and debris is being cleared. “The rescue operation will go on till we find no possibility of any human life in the debris,” the DM said.

In another major tragedy in Uttar Pradesh, 11 districts are currently affected by floods, claiming as many as 17 lives, as per information by the office of the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The government announced a relief money of Rs 4 lakh each will be provided to the families of the deceased. “So far, relief money has been provided to 30 affected people in connection with the loss of 30 animals. 3,056 houses have been damaged. Relief assistance has been distributed in connection,” read the post of UP Chief Minister’s Office on X.
